Why Omar Abdullah needs our support

At no time in the history of Kashmir is it important that we all cooperate and support our Chief Minister. Supporting Omar Abdullah is important because I have worked closely with him and know that he has the energy and genuine passion for improving the lives of all Kashmiris and rescuing Kashmir out of the rut of corruption, unemployment and lawlessness. Many readers and critics will not even have finished reading my first sentence and started to mumble to themselves that I am the biggest psychophant to ever walk the face of the earth. These people are entitled to their opinion, but so am I, therefore I would like to lay down my views on why it is imperative that we all set our differences aside and respect the verdict of the people of Kashmir and give Omar a hand in steering Kashmir toward the path of development and prosperity.

With Omar at the helm, we have a chance to seek the maximum benefit out of our relationship with India. He has excellent rapport with all the powers that be in the central government. I can think of no other Kashmiri leader, past or present, who had the combination of education, ability, charisma, and communication skills as Omar does. Kashmir and Kashmiris need a united voice. No general can fight his battles alone. If all Kashmiris give Omar a chance I do not see why we can together save Kashmir from falling deeper into the precipice of misery that we have been in for the past 20 years.

Dear Tanvir:
You are quite defiant in showering praises liberally over Omar Abdullah. In one of your earlier comments in this blog, you are on record having stated, "Even if my defeat in the assembly elections helped NC to gain a seat from Zadibal constituency, so be it! Content that Omar got the benefit. I was the NC’s official candidate and after the last minute change of mind, I had no other option then to jump into the fray , I just got 2 weeks to convince the people what I stood for, I had to fight 3 big political parties and still came as a runner up".

Frist of all you didn't finish as runner up. You must regret for posting this wrong piece of information. You finished as second runner-up as is evident from the election results available at the official website of Chief Election Officer, J&K at www.ceojammuandkashmir.nic.in
Secondly you say it took you two weeks to convince people what you stand for. Did you convince people of Zadibal before elections that you stand for supporting Omar Abdullah as Chief Ministerial candidate, or you fooled them by saying something else at that time and something else now. You categorically admit at this juncture that you are content if Omar Abdullah gained from your being in the election fray and subtly accept that you divided the vote bank of shia dominated areas of Zadibal just to give mileage to the NC candidate. Does that not tentamount to cheating and decieving the people of Zadibal like what conventional politicians having being doing. Were you honest enough to tell your voters of Zadibal during campaigning that you were actually the official candidate of NC and that there was change of mind at the eleventh hour. Surely you didn't say anything of that sort. Rather you poured you anger, dejection and venom against NC as much as you did against PDP or Congress during your campaigning. Is that not moral corruption. Did you not behave like a true opportunist by stating something at that time and something else now. I need a categorical answer from you on one point. Do you accept what Koshur commented about you sometime back, that you were a proxy candidate flouted by NC just to cut down upon the vote bank of other parties like PDP in shia dominated areas of Zadibal. Come on be honest enough to admit that just the way you admit that you are content on NC candidate winning from Zadibal.

@Kashmir Crisis,

first of all thankyou for taking time to write the comment.

I am writing a detailed article for the local paper about my election bid and I promise I will not leave anything to the imagination and write all that led me to contest as an independent candidate. I hope that it will answer all your questions and clear all doubts.

For now I would like to categorically clear the false rumours spread by miscreants. I have said it before in my earlier posts that no politician worth his salt would jeopardize his career for simply splitting the vote bank. These are figments of imagination of conspiracy theorists such as Koshur and yourself.

After the NC election committee made their decision that I would not be given the mandate from Zadibal, the people of Zadibal, and my supporters urged me to contest as an independent candidate.

I had only two weeks to inform all my supporters and potential voters about my symbol and that I will not be contesting as an NC candidate. Compare this with almost a year worth of campaigning that PDP and NC had. Inspite of this headstart, I managed to poll - as you insist - as the 2nd runner up! with almost as many votes as the PDP candidate.

I am proud of my accomplishments and take pride in working for the people of my constituency. I am not a petty man to hold a grudge against anybody, and have the maturity to see that there are no losers in a democratic election. I am not here to solve the Kashmir issue, but rather to develop Kashmir so atleast we are proud of our infrastructure and amenities. Omar can help deliver these and that is something that everyone is able to sense.

To us absolute majority of Kashmiris Omar Abdhullah is an enemy agent installed upon us ay our occupier India. An Occupier has no allies in an occupied land, it has only agents. Omar is our enemy's ally aka agent. He will be used by India and flushed out like his grandfather.
We Kashmiris cannot and will not accept him in form or in any other manifestation.
Tanveer you have a desire to worship him, its your choice. We the absolute 99% majority of Kashmir wont even want to think about him. To Kashmiris he is an abnoxious weed and should not be allowed to grow.
Although I am not a Shia, I rever and respect Imam Hussain A.S and Hazra Ali K.W as much as any Shia brother does. I prefer to avoid undertaking any important work or ceremony on Ashura days. Thats my faith and belief. My child's birthday was on 5th Jan, we did not celebrate because we are Muslims and know that we should be remembering the Martyrs of Karbala instead of celebrating an event.
Now see what your idol Omar did. Took oath on 7th of Muharram knowing that Ist 10 days of Muharram should be avoided to ceromonise such events for a practising Muslim. But on that day it was an auspicious day for Sikh community (Guru Gobind's Birthday, 5 January). He probably preferred to listen to his wife Payal Singh and took oath on that very auspicious day for her. So disgusting. Although to us it does not mean anything absolutely but for you it was an event worth rejoicing. Hope you celebrated with a bang and bash but we all were remembering Karbala and keeping a low profile. Thats how we are. Genetically followers of a just and rightful cause. We cannot be followers of Yezid and his children. We are with Hussain A. S in this war and will never change our belief. Even if, we are done to death. We are on the rightful path. Be remimded!

@kashmir center

From your post, your only grudge with Omar seems to be that he took oath within ten days of Muharram. I would like to ask you this: does government stop working during these days? In the great country of Iran, does government stop working?

Inspite of this, Omar said that he will expand his cabinet after Muharram. In all muslim countries, the basic government always functions even on very important days such as Ashura.

You keep saying that Omar is an Indian stooge and an agent. I have yet to hear a satisfactory answer to the question that if we add up all the votes for National Conference, they add up to more than 5 lakh votes (not including the votes for the opposition). Therefore more than 5 lakh Kashmiris fully support Omar. Please enlighten me why he cannot be considered as representing these Kashmiris?

A video I made on history of Kashmir. All feedback's are welcome.
