I would like to remove some of the haze that has been covering my blog for some time now. Although It's been great to see people visiting my blog and debating, I would have really appreciated had the debate not resorted to personal attacks and name calling. It just emphasizes the fact that the more writers pour out their thoughts for all to read and judge, the more debate there is and that way people can decide for themselves. Otherwise, in the abscence of counter arguments and where there is a vacuum of opposing voices, people tend to be easily swayed away with a stroke of a pen (See comments ….). I am thankful to my fellow blogger Koshur who used some good words for me.
Right now every one is concerned or rather looks concerned about the Chief Minister, they call him an Indian stooge, and if that’s not enough they say his chair was already decided even before elections were held.
It reminds me of one of the comments by some one who said in my earlier post that, "Tanvir You have written a couple of hundred thousand people participated in the anti- India protests. What a hypocrate you are. You must be a staunch Pro- Indian stooge. You are trying to keep your bosses in a good humour. Whole world knows that people came out in millions not in thousands”. Even if it were a million odd people and even if I go by his theory why cant any one convince me that out of 10 million population of Kashmir valley 60 % voted in the recent election, then how can it be farcical and how can the hurriyat be the real representatives of Kashmiris. Haven’t the separatist lost the battle or may be people like koshur (http://kashmir-truth-be-told.blogspot.com), Kashmir crisis, Kashmir centre are still hoping that they can ruin Kashmir a little more . I don’t know but may be they need a yanky yelling at them “Hey dude people voted and boycott guys lost, so just chill”.
I do not intend to be one sided but I see a prosperous Kashmir if we remain a fully autonomous state with India. Granted there have been excesses committed by certain forces within India and Kashmiris have been suffering gravely for the past many decades. The other alternatives to autonomy are too laden with risk to gamble our future for. We have a special place and we deserve to be autonomous. There are forces within India who wish to undermine our special status but there are also many reasonable and moderate voices who genuinely understand the Kashmir issues better.

Very well written Tanvir , I was checking your face book account and saw the link to this blog , Well done, we really need to support each other if we want Kashmir to be happy . just to add Omar looks promising hope he delivers and comes up to the expectation.

'Hey dude, elections are being held in Kashmir since our slavery in 1947. What have elections changed. Nothing'. India does not belong to us nor does Kashmir belong to India.
In January 1947 Kashmir's first ever legislative body in Dogra rule under the chairmanship of Pt. P N Bazaz passed a unanimous and unimbigious resolution resolution favouring Kashmir's accession to Pakistan and rejecting India altogether as an alternative. Despot Hari Singh preferred Independence and signed an agreement in this regard with Pakistan. It was Nehru and Sheikh Ab. who hatched a conspiracy to cede Kashmir with India illegally. With the help of Ghaffar Gandhi their plan was materialised and Hari Singh was forced to sign that illegal document of temporary accession with India.
So it was Sheikh who being a Kashmiri Muslim went against Kashmiris for his personal wellbeing. You and all those who justify Indian Occupation by slogans of development, oppurtunities, autonomy and secularism are people with rotten mentality. You cannot think selflessly. You want to cement Indian occupation in Kashmir for your cheap personal gains.
You assert that seperatist movement is over in Kashmir. Its your Ostrich head behaviour. Your wishful thinking is going to make you dejected. Let wait and watch.

There is nothing wrong in demanding autonomy, or even independence. But what is the most problematic when this demand is made on the basis of religion or under the support of Muslim Ummah. Voiced in such terms, that demand is not legitimate (because India itself has more than 100 million Muslims). Further, it gives more legitimacy to the 2-nation theory of Pakistan which India never accepted willingly, and which has been discredited after Bangladesh was formed.
If Kashmiris have secular and democratic parties which contest in elections and which still argue for independence, that will be a different proposition altogether.
This is not the case. As visible in the blogosphere (or in the seperatist movement) all hardline demands for independence come from fundamentalist Islamists.
This presents startling contrast with the situation in Pakistan - where all the demands for independence (in Pukthoonkhwa, Sind, Baluchistan or in erstwhile Bengal) have come from secular and democratic parties : all of which have been suppressed ruthlessly by the Pak army.

i was going through quite a few blogs on kashmir and accidentally stumbled on yours, although you are a good writer but going through your blog it seems you are pleasing some one and rather then clearing the haze from the discussions you are making it more hazy for instance your latest post i will not agree with your assumption that there was a 60 % voter tunout and hurriyat has lost relevance let me tell you a fact :
I remember not quite long ago i as a 14 yrs old teenager along with all the male members of our locality were forced out of our homes to cast vote by security forces ,i was made to vote 10 times and with me there were other boys much younger then me who were made to do the same and this has been a routine in the farce elections of J&K state till date
I remember all the leaders before election shouting that we are only figting for giving good amenities to the people of J&K and the solution for J&K is a different issue ,and now yousay its a verdict against hurriyat its doing a u turn,why were there massive protests in kashmir just a few months back and why was it brutally suppressed and why did the indian media black out these protests.
If tommorow elections are held in kashmir by a neutral international agency and not by ECI you'll get your answer and yes one more thing iraq has been occupied by less then 100,000 US and other soldiers they were sucessful to some extent to silence the opposition and now compare it with kashmir were there are more then 10 lac indian soldiers and still you hear voice of resistance and you brag its a fair election...

@ Anonymous and Kashmir centre , A) my friend I am not pleasing any one, I lost an election with a candidate who was from a party whoz CM I feel is worth betting on. According to many I should be shouting that the recent held election were either farcical or may be I would have been called a good politician had I abused the people who won. But I dint do that instead I thought lets unite to help Kashmir out of this crisis . If the present assembly passes a resolution, Kashmir can have a peaceful solution.
B) I never said Hurriyat lost its relevance my friend i said they are not the real representatives of kashmiri people and that separatist lost the battle this time, Recall, when the election were still to be held they shouted from the roof tops that their will be total boycott, suddenly after the huge turnout they went to an extend of praising Omar Abdullah,
C )Dear friend I am totally against thinking what happened in the past , why should a youth be concerned about what happened in 52, 77, 87 …. , I am a youth and so expect my generation to think 50 years down the line, I see the present leadership irrespective of what party they belong to having a role in the present situation . If today Omar heads the state so be it , If its Omar Mirwaiz tomorrow I will be equally happy and also if any other of their genre are elected .
D) Again when you say that the result will be different if its held under some international agency, Isn’t that hypothetical. What if there is an earth quake and the world ends before that. Any answers.
